Hello everyone! My name is Sarah Smart and I have been appointed the head coach of Jackson High School girls soccer program. For the past two years I had been the JV head coach, and I’m excited to serve all of you in this new role within the program. Alejandro Botero will continue to volunteer his time as an assistant, and we are currently in the process of hiring my replacement and a new C team coach as well.
We’re about to begin our journey in one week’s time, when we kick off for the official start of the season Monday, 8/22. Tryout times are Monday, at 8:30-10:00 am, and 5:30-8:00 pm, Tuesday 9:00-10:00 am, and 5:30-8:00 pm. Tryouts will most likely run through Tuesday Evening, and if needed, an additional tryout will take place Wednesday evening 5:30-8:00 pm.
Once teams are decided, practices will begin the following day. Practice information will be available once we’ve hired the remainder of our coaching staff. Typically the Varsity and JV practice from 2:30 to 4:30, at Freedom Field in Mill Creek, while C Team is at JHS. All teams will practice Thursday, and then on Friday (8/26) morning we will depart for the Waterhouse Center Inc., http://www.waterhousecenter.com/directions.php), for our traditional ropes course team builder.
Every year we’ve done the course it has proven to be an excellent way for our newly formed teams to come together. The course instills in all participants the ability to communicate, problem solve, and persevere in the face of uncertainty. The course will take approximately four to six hours, so please have your daughters bring snacks and lunch, which we will eat onsite. The the cost of this team builder is subsidized by the booster club and ASB, however there is a ten-dollar charge each participant must be to ASB. Also transportation will NOT be provided, so rides must be coordinated through the families.
This year there will NOT be a jamboree. Monday evening, the 29th, we will have a team meeting and then a potluck at the JHS grass fields @ 6:00-7:30 pm. During the meeting we will discuss our program as well as a chance to meet the coaches, booster club, and fellow parents. We will be designating which teams bring which items after teams are picked.
Two other important dates include September 10th, which is our annual car wash from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, and our garage sale fundraiser located at the Myer’s Family Home, Saturday, October 1st, from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm.

We will continue to be working with Tara Locknane for our JHS related apparel, with more information on accessing our team store and ordering team gear to come in the following weeks.
