Welcome to Madame Powell's Class
Please refer to my Canvas Calendar at this time for classwork.
Bonjour and welcome to French! My name is Stephanie Powell and I've been at Jackson High School since it opened in the Fall of 1994. Before that, I taught at Cascade High School and North Middle School. I was also raised in the Everett School District and think it's a very good place to live and work! After graduating high school, I went on to receive my BA in French at the University of Washington and then took off to study in Paris at La Sorbonne. Living and traveling in France was a phenomenal experience! Since then, I've been back six times to visit. Four of those times were leading student trips with CHA, ACIS and Explorica - truly the "Ultimate Fieldtrip"!
After returning home from studying in France, I completed my teaching certificate at Western Washington University and then in 1996 graduated with my MA TESOL from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. In fact, a former JHS French student of mine also received her MA TESOL from MIIS and at the same time completed a two year stint in the Peace Corps through MIIS. If you're interested in an international career, be sure to check out their website at www.miis.edu . (Did you know that while JFK gave it government support, it was a Stanford Grad Student who came up with the idea of Peace Corps? Dr Peter Grothe was an Adjunct Professor at MIIS for 31 years.) Did you also know that The Monterey Institute of International Studies and Thunderbird in Phoenix are two US Grad Schools which require you to have fluency in a Foreign Language in order to be admitted? Each and every year, I have the great privilege of teaching French to incredible students. This year, I once again look forward to teaching and sharing the French Language and Cultures with my students. Thanks for signing up for French. It's going to be a great year!BA French - University of WashingtonMA Teaching World Language - Monterey Institute of International Studies (Now: Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey)Cértificat de présence - La Sorbonne/Université de Paris425-385-7000Période 1: Français 2
