ESSER Overview

Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds were authorized by the federal government to provide school funding to support sustained safe building reopenings and operations while meeting the academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs of students resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. These relief dollars were distributed in three phases:
ESSER I - Cares Act: The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, signed into law on March 13, 2020 reimburses eligible expenses through September 30, 2021. Everett Public Schools received $2.6 million which has been fully claimed.
ESSER II - CRRSA Act: The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act, signed into law on December 27, 2020 reimburses eligible expenses through September 30, 2022. Everett Public Schools received $10.2 million. Expenditures are planned through June 30, 2022.
ESSER III - ARP Act of 2021: The American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021, signed into law on March 11, 2021 reimburses eligible expenses through September 30, 2023. Everett Public Schools received $22.9 million. Expenditures are planned through September 30, 2023.
