Ruby Bridges Day: November 14, 2022
- Created and implemented by members of AAA School Safety Patrol in California state.
- The Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day is a walk to commemorate Ruby’s brave steps.
- The bigger goal of this venture is to create a Day of Dialogue for a safe space and time for students to discuss issues.
A few other notes to pass along:
- AAA Washington is inviting ten specific schools around the state to be part of its inaugural Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day program.
- Because of the commemorative day’s origin story, each chosen school has a patrol program that produces a Hall of Fame Inductee in 2020 and 2022.
What AAA said about FVE Staff member Andrea Rosen:
“As one of Washington’s premiere AAA School Safety Patrol Advisors, who consistently leads an outstanding squad and regularly helps patrollers receive recognition in our annual Hall of Fame, I’m hoping you and your fellow educators will be inspired to participate in the 2022 Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day.”
Ruby Bridges was the first African American child to desegregate William Franz Elementary School at the age of 6. Ruby was escorted by four federal marshals for the first few days, dispatched by President Eisenhower. For more information on Ruby Bridges and her story, visit her website here.
